Journey into Healing is the Chopra Center’s most profound mind-body healing workshop, a five-day immersion that integrates the Eastern healing arts with the latest advances in medical science.
Seven Day Detox Routine
According to Ayurveda, good health is dependent upon our capability to fully metabolize the nutritional, emotional and sensory information that we ingest. When our digestive energies, known as Agni (fire), are robust, we create healthy tissues, eliminate waste products efficiently and produce a subtle essence called ojas. Ojas, which may be envisioned as the source of our vitality, is the basis for clarity of perception, physical strength, and immunity. On the other hand, if our agnis are weakened, digestion is incomplete. This accumulation of toxic residue is collectively known as ama. Cleansing and detoxifying the body helps build the natural fire within (agni), which naturally burns ama and aids in digestion.
To help detoxify, strengthen the immune system, and increase the production of ojas (vital energy), we suggest performing the following activities for 7 days:
1. Every morning, perform a self massage (self-Abhy) with herbalized dosha balancing oil. When stimulated through therapeutic touch or massage, the skin releases a pharmacy of healing chemicals that have health-promoting effects on the physiology. In addition to feeling good, regular massage and loving touch detoxifies the body’s tissues, increase circulation, calms the mind, and enhances immune function.
2. Follow your massage with a Neti pot and Nasya, a traditional method to purify and revitalize the breathing passages. In addition, this process can reduce allergies and decrease your chances of contracting upper respiratory infections.
3. Take Biochavan and Triphala. Biochavan has been used for thousands of years to promote health and longevity. Rich in antioxidants, it has been scientifically proven to have measurable health enhancing benefits including detoxification, improved digestive functioning, and increased immunity. Triphala, formulated by Ayurvedic physicians thousands of years ago and used by literally billions of people since, is considered the most effective colon tonic by most health care practitioners.
4. Drink 3-4 cups of dosha balancing organic tea per day to help flush the system.
5. Simplify your diet to appropriately cooked vegetables and rice to allow your digestive power to work on cleansing the body.

So Hum Meditation
The So Hum meditation is a simple but powerful technique that uses the breath and the repetition of a mantra to quiet the mind and relax the body. This meditation will help take your awareness from a state of constriction to a state of expanded consciousness.
1.Choose a place where you won’t be disturbed. Sit in a chair or on the floor, using blankets and pillows to make yourself as comfortable as possible.
2.Close your eyes and for a few minutes and take a few moments to observe the inflow and outflow of your breath.
3.Now take a slow, deep breath through your nose, while thinking or silently repeating the word So.
4.Then slowly exhale through your nose while silently repeating the word Hum. Continue to allow your breath to flow easily, silently repeating So . . . Hum . . . with each inflow and outflow of the breath. Whenever your attention drifts to thoughts in your mind, sounds in the environment, or sensations in your body, gently return to your breath, silently repeating So . . . Hum.
5.Whenever your attention drifts to thoughts in your mind, sounds in your environment, or sensations in your body, gently return to your breath, silently repeating, So . . . Hum.
6.Do this process for 20 to 30 minutes. Just breathe easily and effortlessly, without trying to concentrate. When the time is up, sit with your eyes gently closed, taking a moment to rest in the stillness and silence of your meditation. At the Chopra Center there is only one meditation rule: Never rush to or from meditation. Just allow the peace and calm to soak into your body, and you will carry a little bit of this peace and calm with you as you move into the activities of your day.

For thousands of years, people have used meditation to move beyond mental and emotional turbulence into profound peace and expanded awareness. As scientific research reveals, when you meditate, your breathing slows, your blood pressure decreases, and your stress hormone levels fall. Even as your body is resting deeply in meditation, your mind is awake, though quiet. The term restful awareness captures the unique combination of physical relaxation and an alert yet calm mind.
The most important benefit of meditation is how it affects your daily life. When you end your meditation session, you take some of the stillness and calm with you as you move through your day. Therefore all of your thoughts, actions, and reactions are infused with a little more love and mindful attention. The result is a deeper appreciation and a profound awareness of the divine quality of existence.

Introduction to Meditation with Deepak Chopra
This is a great video from Deepak's site, Intent. Here, he explains more about meditation. Meditation is one of the most important things we teach here at the Chopra Center. I had tried meditation before and felt that it was difficult to concentrate. After learning the Primordial Sound Meditation, I found it easier to tune into the silence and calm my mind. Now I find my meditations are what get me through those tough days. I feel more centered and my relations have improved!
