Marcia grew up in San Diego, California. She attended the University of California, Riverside for two years after high school, and then received an A.A. degree in computer science from Coleman College. She worked as a computer programmer and systems analyst for seven years. While she enjoyed a successful career in the computer field, Marcia felt that her purpose in life lay in a different direction.

She returned to school to pursue a career in medicine and completed a B.A. degree in psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles. She received an M.D. degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico. Her internship and residency were done at the University of Texas, Houston in psychiatry, and she is board certified in psychiatry. Since residency, Marcia has been practicing psychiatry with the under-served, chronically mentally ill in the Coachella Valley, California.

Throughout her life Marcia has been interested in the role that the mind, stress, lifestyle, and spirituality play in creating health and in the disease process. Along with her husband, she began taking seminars at the Chopra Center to learn about Ayurvedic medicine, and completed the Chopra Center Perfect Health certification in April, 2007. Marcia promotes an Ayurvedic lifestyle as a healthy complement to traditional medicine.
